Prior to starting the course we were to create a 120x120mm square in which we created a design which showed off what we prefer in the area of graphics. I immediately wanted to show how I like to include a meaning with my work as well as using fine art aspects of my style within the design. I had previously painted the 'joker' on my face and this was the inspiration for me to take this into photoshop and increase the meaning and symbolism rather than just relating it to a film but rather shocking the people who viewed the poster. I really enjoy underlining meaning to my work and I felt that by creating a different meaning to a character that most people know it will grab and seek the attention of the audience. "Everyone has a dark side." refers to the idea of London watching us all through the city's cameras they use with the excuse of "security". I think that many people have a dark side to them and this includes the people behind London's cameras. My poster is trying to make people more aware of not only the dangers of London and the people around them but the cameras that are put in place for their well-being and safety.

Overview of progression
Over the past weeks I have gone through every different subject ranging from graphics, LBM, fashion and 3DD. Not only have a been able to finally decide what I wish to carry on in I have learnt a lot about the different sections of subject. I have thoroughly enjoyed the progression weeks although academic writing was not something I wish to do in such detail. I feel that the few weeks I have had to discover the subjects has lead me to discover myself and how my love for graphic design is growing although I could not deter my favourite week. I have taken part in both private work as well as building teams helping me to grow in confidence and share my ideas within a group environment.
Graphics has lead me to discover a passion that I never knew I had whilst Lens based has made me feel as though photography is something I could include more in my work. Having taken fashion GCSE I was surprised at how much I still loved the subject today although I feel it is my weaker point and 3D was fun to experiment and test out ideas physically rather than always being at a desk which is something I do little of.
Overall, I have loved my time over the progression week and I feel that this love with continue to grow throughout the Graphics pathway.

Kemistry Gallery: Milton Glaser & Seymour Chwast
Today I visited the Kemistry gallery where I was able to see the works of Milton Glaser & Seymour Chwast. I loved the way they have used colour and it really stood out amongst the white walls. I also liked their sketches which showed how everything derives from ideas and concepts. Whilst I was not here for long I could tell that my love for graphic design is growing and I could potentially be creating works such as this.

Life drawing
I have never been to a life drawing class prior to today and at first I was nervous however now I am glad I have taken part in such a task. I really enjoyed the class and to understand the human body as a form of art. I must say that although I enjoyed the day I could have drawn better however I understand that this is part of learning and enhancing skills. I have drawn using many different mediums as well as exploring many poses and techniques.
The next is done using two hands, each with a different medium. I enjoyed this technique because I was limited with the ability of my left hand and my right helped contribute to the shape whilst the left contributed to texture.
Another drawing I have done is by pointing out where the main joints are on the body and then filling in the dots, fleshing the body out. I really disliked this technique because I could not get the shape right and it frustrated me.
My left hand is the weaker of the two and for me to improve this I tried out using this hand. It was hard to control however it gave a sense of freedom to my work.
I then tried out different action poses, where the model posed using a stick acting out different scenes. For example snooker or a wand.
At first I started off by drawing with different mediums, these being pastel, charcoal, pen, marker and graphite.
I then started to experiment with different techniques. The first is where I have taped two mediums together. This was a interesting way to draw because it changed when I moved the direction in which I held them.
This drawing is done using vertical and horizontal lines. I was not able to create curved line nor diagonal. I love the way that this turned out. The square like shapes still resemble the body however it is unique in style.

These two drawings were created by taping a medium to a stick. This was very hard to create shape with and I did not enjoy this very much although it did help with freeing up my style of drawing.

John Pawson
He is a British Designer associated with minimalist aesthetics. He has designed many Calvin Klein stores as well as many other projects. His work has been held at the Design Museum in September 2010. I love the way his style influences every decision he makes in a design. The minimal style is one that I like so his work appeals to me in this sense. He is able to get the job done whilst still generating a style that is unique. His work is something that many view as boring with the white walls and clean aesthetic look, however to me this is a style in which I resemble class and value which would mean that people have different opinions on his style. As well as this people could see his work as easy because of simple designs and lack of style however this could be viewed as his own style.

Frank Gerhury
His career has spanned over five decades and has produced both public and private buildings in America, Europe and Asia. His work has earned him many awards within the architecture field.
He now has a business with many people helping under his name. (Gehry Technologies) They have created complex buildings and have adopted buildings and have adopted new technologies continuing with new projects.

3DD Day three:
We started today with working into our sketchbooks. I started to make structures which crossed the page, suggesting a bridge shape. I used many techniques such as folding, curling and cutting out to achieve different effects. I wanted to use white paper against the brown paper to show a contrast to the bridge like shapes. This was a task I did not enjoy however coming up with unique ways to cross the page was quite interesting.

It was good to find out about the different pathways within 3DD. I felt that with my fine art background I would be able to expand and grow into different ways of creating projects. I feel that 3DD is not the pathway for me however I do find the concepts taught to be very interesting however it is not my strong point unfortunately.
We then had to build a bridge out of card and bamboo sticks as a group of around 7. This was exciting to work in such a big group; I enjoyed this task very much. As a group we decided that we wanted to create boxes which then made up into a bridge like shape taped to both sides of the tables. I suggested we set up a production line, where as a group we were all set different tasks. I was then appointed to be leader and helped our team with the making of our bridge. Two people were set to draw the net of the box, another two to cut out the net, one to put the box together, one to put the boxes together as a bridge and I went around helping each working point whilst the rest of the group switched after a while.
Teamwork also lifted spirits. |

After rushing to complete the bridge everyone watched each other's team test them out. The car was driven over the bridge. Although our bridge wasn't as wide as we would of liked it was able to hold the weight of the car which I something I am very proud of. I managed to film the car travelling over the bridge, to watch the video click the link below.
