Being set with the task to bring in 10 objects which represent my past and present, I found this hard. I struggled to find which memories I could represent with objects. We were then told to draw these objects however the drawing did not have to represent the object but the memory it presented. I tried to use a range of materials to create my drawings and represent my past memories.
I decided to bring in a poster from my first Art Exhibition I set up in 2012. This is a memory that is important to me because it was the start of my future in getting into the art and design world. I wanted to portray the memory through what I remembered rather than the poster itself. I decided that the memory went so fast that it blurred giving me the opportunity to use charcoal and quickly building shapes. I also gave the drawing a sense of movement through smudging and using quick lines.
My second memory is a pencil pot I had created in wood technology. This object is the first thing I made in the subject and I was very proud of what I had achieved. It is something that helped me realise that I did not only want to draw and paint but create and design. Within my drawing I decided to keep the design to straight lines and shapes because it is a way of suggesting that you should measure and keep things straight to the point when creating a object. I feel that this drawing is one that takes on a graphic style.
The third memory consists of me turning 18. This was a point in your life where many celebrate as a main birthday and I felt it conveyed a point in my life where I learnt to grow up and be responsible for my actions. I also feel this is a memory worth keeping forever. I captured the number in bold to show what the drawing was about. I also decided to keep the drawing simple and just add the idea of what happened both during my birthday and after (such as voting etc.)
A memory that I have over a number of years is the fact I travelled on holiday every year to the Canary Islands. I discovered my love for travelling as well as my talents in Art and Design. The Photograph I have is of me and my sister next to a dolphin we created out of sand. I used to watch and be amazed at the people who used the sand to manipulate into lifelike images which inspired me to do my own. The drawing I created was in pencil and biro because I wanted to create the simplicity of a memory I love so much. I drew what I saw because this gave me a chance to capture the memory on its own.
As well as this, I used to play tennis for a couple of years which lead me to gain a few medals in doing so. This is something I like to remember because I am not a sporty person anymore like I used to be. I brought out the rackets in my drawing so the viewer could see immediately what I won the medals for. I also only used the blue in the ribbon to capture the medal bringing it in front of the rest.
The next memory is of a medal and number I have from raising money for children with leukaemia. I took part in many Bikeathons where I cycled around the O2 (The Dome back in 2004) with people sponsoring me. I have raised a lot of money for Blue Peter Helping them to donate money to children suffering with leukaemia. I decided to draw the bike but make one of the wheels the medal I received. I kept the drawing simple because it is something that gets the message across easily.
My seventh memory is when my sister was born. I can never forget this memory as she continues to annoy me 16 years on. I was nearly four when she was born however I only remember her being at the hospital rather than being in my mother's stomach. I therefore kept the drawing to a cartoon style using a "BOOM" to indicate the immediate time of my sister coming into the world.
The eighth memory is of my time when I used to ballet dance. From the age of 3 - 13 I learnt and took part in many shows on stage where I danced to such musicals such as Beauty and the beast, The lion King and Mary Poppins. This is a favourite memory of mine because I loved being able to go on stage in front of many people. I decided to draw the skirt I wore in my first show but with the legs of an older me showing how I have progressed across the years.
Another memory would be only last year when I went to visit many locations across the Canary Island, Lanzarote. I realised how much I love to explore and travel the world that we take for granted. My drawing is of the memory rather than the ticket. I used the technique of continuous line drawing to produce a fluid look to the water however I kept this throughout the whole drawing creating a child like look.
My final memory is of a paintbrush, I used to paint a lot in nursery and this is what I wanted to capture. Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and painting has produced a lot of memories throughout my life. One of them being when I was 7 learning how to use water colour by watching my parents friend on a beach on holiday. My drawing is sketchy using a biro and I used this because I love using pen to draw with. However if I was to recreate this I would use paint to capture the feeling of the memory.
