Graphics Project 18 - Weather (Week 3)

This week was a bit of a rush and very stressful. Having not been able to come up with an idea until the second week I felt pressured to finish the book pages in time. I decided to keep the pages very technical and wanted to also include text which gave a context to the book so I decided to spend the first two days finishing the pages of the book. This was hard but I took my Dad's original drawings and recreated them on my own which gave a link to the family but also made the book less complicated than I would have anticipated. After creating the images on Photoshop I had to bind the book together, something I had not previously done and therefore took to YouTube to find out how to hard bind. I managed to create the book in time however it is not as clean as I would like it to be and this is something I am concerned about. If I had the time to rebind the book I would definitely do this and it would help it to stay together as a book. Overall, I do like the outcome and I am proud of myself for actually being able to bind a book together however I would recreate the book in order to make it perfect.

Graphics Project 18 - Weather (Week 2)

Having not come up with an idea the previous week I decided that I had to get an idea on Monday no matter what it was. I looked at the weather reports for the rain we have been having lately and realised that the Thames Barrier was a major part of the floods we have been having as well as the previous ones. I then decided to explore this further and found out my Dad did a project on the Thames Barrier and therefore he had images in which inspired me further. I took part in a book binding workshop which gave me the idea to create a book about the Thames Barrier before, during and the potential outcome of how long it would last. I spent this week researching into the Thames Barrier and started to develop some images which could potentially happen if the Barrier was to fail.

Graphics Project 18 - Weather (Week 1)

Starting this three week project I felt very daunted by the length of it and how I could potentially create something worthy of the three weeks. I was very concerned on even finding an idea as I wasn't very inspired by the rain in which we've been having the last couple of weeks. I would have liked to have had a better inspiration at the start of the project which would have allowed me to quickly generate an idea. I firstly took the inspiration from my everyday routine and decided to imprint the weather symbols onto toast. I put the image of a slice of toast into photoshop and layered a slightly opaque brown (burnt) look of the symbols on top. This idea looked very simple and effective but it lacked meaning and depth to it therefore I decided to scrap this idea and look for more inspiration within the weather. At the end of the first week I feel a lack of interest in this project and have little idea on what I could achieve as a final outcome but I will continue to look into this idea of the rain and how it is affecting us.
